31K units to be provided in Gurgaon under affordable housing scheme

Affordable housing scheme

With Haryana government announcing provision of 31,736 flats under the economically weaker section and affordable housing categories in Gurgaon on Wednesday, common man’s hope for owning a dwelling unit in the Millennium City stays afloat.

According to information, formalities related to allotment of 14,500 flats and plots under affordable housing and EWS categories have been completed and scheme for allotment can be floated anytime by the Housing Board, Haryana, and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) after finalizing the modalities.

This has also given hope to colonizers, who had opted for licences for other cities, and residents looking forward to affordable housing in the town or city of their choice. While responding to a question by Gurgaon MLA Umesh Aggarwal, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who holds the town and country planning department portfolio, elaborated on the details related to affordable housing in Gurgaon. Officials confirmed that like Gurgaon, the department is gearing up to clear licences for other urban areas too.

According to information, the TCP department has cleared 290 colonies under EWS and affordable housing categories, out of which it has already cleared building plans of 209 colonies having provision of 31,736 housing units.

Notably, since September 2014, when the Election Commission issued notification for announcement of assembly polls in Haryana, the town and country planning department had stopped issuing the change of land use (CLU) permissions for private colonizers and the ban has not been lifted so far.

The affordable housing scheme was launched in 2012 by then chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Colonizers, who had applied for CLUs, were apprehensive about their projects with the change of guard in Haryana as the government was yet to start the CLU process.

Notably, around 3,190 CLUs were issued across the state during Hooda regime. Largely, the CLUs have been issued for Gurgaon, Faridabad, Palwal, Sonipat, Rewari Rohtak, Panipat and Karnal in the national capital region and Panchkula, Hisar, Ambala and Kurukshetra.
